DMDN 311 Project2 report

What I intended to do was to make a virtual environment that people can now find in real world. My concept was to make a environment that made up by brain and organs, the brain is the centre of the environment and the nerves connecting the brain and organs are the roads of the environment. The environment gives the players a feeling that the brain is controlling everything in the environment. My inspiration is game Starcraft from Blizzard, in that game there is a race called Zerg, all Zergs do not have their own mind, instead they are all controlled by a huge brain called overmind, they do what over mind orders them to do

To make the environment, I created three main components which are the shield of the brain, the nerves connecting brain and organs and the nerves connecting right brain and left brain. For the shield part, I made a ball that is made by several circles that are made by millions of little sphere. The key formula to make this is "r^2=x^2+y^2". For the nerve connecting brain and organs I made many little spheres on a line then multiply the x, y, and z values by sin(x) and cos(x) to make the lines look like a nerve chain. For the nerves that connect right brain and left brain I just made some cylinders and rotate themrandomly, very simple. Then I combined them with manually made organ models (nose, teeth, hand, feet, ear, mouth, brain) and texture them.

DMDN211 Project3 A Documentry Film

This is the 3rd project of my DMDN 211, a documentry film.
What I am going show in this short film is the difference of
standard of beauty between western and eastern culture.
we can often see a woman that is considered as ugly in
China, but in western perspective she become beautiful.
I have interviewed three people that from different countries
to find the reasons.

This movie contains three parts, the intro part and the interview part. At the beginning a news pops up which is Chinese famous actress Zhang ziyi dates with a foreign man and going to merry him. this bring the discussion which is how people think Zhang ziyi is and if foreign men like ugly Chinese girls couse Zhang ziyi is considered as a bit ugly in China. Then here comes the interview part. In this part three person talk about their opinion and their standards of beauty of woman.

In the 7 mins' version, there is a extra clip at the end, drunk Shuan talks about his love to his idol Lin Zhiling

DMDN211 Project2 Site/Nonsite

Basically my idea is to represent the Architecture & Design School. There are four parts in my video, which divided by the time. At the beginning of my movie, people come to school in the morning, most of the scene I put in is student opening the doors and entering their classrooms. Then the time jumps to the noon, what I put in this part is some relaxed clips, like some people sitting on the grass talking with each other, some people eats sushi, and some drinks coffee in the common room. After that, in the afternoon, students go back to work on their project. I use dissolve to show the passing of time. The last part is evening, the sky turns black, most student back home but there still a few people working at school. The most interesting part of my movie would be the different feeling in different time period gives to the audience. In the morning and afternoon, the feeling is busy while the feeling of midday is relaxed.

This movie is about a man recalls the war and the sad things while staring at gravestones

I used 7 clips to make this video, at first I just find some war clips and mix them together, then put a eye behind those clips to make it looks like a recall. After that, I think I have to introduce the charactor, so people will know whom the eye belongs to. In my second movie I put a clip that contains a person in it, he looks down the ground, then I put a gravestone clip after it. It looks like the person is looking at those gravestone and recalling. I also add a happy sence that is a family playing on the grass(to compare with the sad things). In my last movie I remove the family because I thought it does not make sence to the audience, and changed other things a little in my second movie(like some transparent effect). so it looks better than the second one.

I strongly agree the author's state that " a person simplycopying parts of a message into the new email she is writing, and thelargest media and consumer company recycling designs of other companies aredoing the same thing they practice remixability." In my opinion, remix is such a common thing that we do it everyday.

Let us think about how do we grow up, it is not only about our body, but also about our brain, our thinking. We listen to other persons' opinion everydays, then we think about them and judge them, give up the parts that we think ae wrong and pick the parts that we think are right. then combine them with our own opinions. we repeat this everyday so our thinking become mature.
that is how we grow up, and that is remix.

The most basic thing of remix is information. that is why computer helps remix a lot, we use computers to get on Internet so that we can get huge amout of information. benefit from the tools like blog, forward and redirect function in email clients, RSS, web links which, Internet connects persons that dont know each other at all in real life. so the information and the ideas cross over the little circles of our life.

This article provides us a basic understanding and methods about where and how we get the stuffs for our project 1 : remixing.
But one thing that we have to concern is the copyright. only open resource is legal to be used.
this limits our design field, how to figure it out is what all the designer have to think about.
